Denver goes international with the Biennial of the Americas
This week Denver held what many esteem as a "coming out party," declaring itself to the life as an international city. The Biennial of the Americas , a month-extended, city-wide event celebrating the erudition, ideas and people of the Western Hemisphere, kicked off with a happy event at the McNichols Building . The memorable structure in Civic Center Park has recently undergone its own mutation-- from drab government offices to all-embracing gallery spaces. Both the building and the megalopolis are known and loved by many, but the ambitious, month hunger Biennial seeks to make them known by all.
"We are, in as a matter of actual fact, a global city," says Denver Municipality Councilman Doug Linkhart, "It straight isn't always recognized. We hope the Biennial will put Denver on the broad map-- in fact, we hope to aide paint what the map will become."
In addition to raising Denver's foreign profile, Linkhart also hopes that the at any rate will raise awareness locally about our neighbors to the north and south. "We do more exchange with the Western Hemisphere than we do with China," he notes.
