Burlesque beauties come in all shapes and sizes
Not that the travesty idea of beauty is simply 'wasted-chick' discrimination in reverse.“I'm not one to say that actual women have curves... and you certainly don't want them to perform burlesque,” Ms Kitt stresses.
Comparing Maid Burlesque to its mainstream alternatives is about differing ideas of loveliness, she says.
“My thoughts on the [other] "Miss" competitions are that they are more targeted at a spear-audience perspective of what beauty is.
"Also, in this struggle, you're putting on a show - a performance, a recreation of your own interpretations of asset, satire and history.”
Another Miss Strip show Queensland finalist who, like Ms Kitt, is hoping to win the maintain heat on July 10 for a slug at the national finals in August, is Scarlett the Alert.
Scarlett agrees burlesque handsomeness is more about performance and talent than conventional aesthetics, though looks still drama a part.
“Whilst appearance is very important in travesty, it is only in the context of helping to create a fantasy everybody to share with our audience,” Ms Signal says. “People's opinions of what dream is differ, so hence, there are many different types of aesthetic ideals remaining in burlesque today.”
