Familiar musical names visit the Shore this summer
Lyrical talents who got their first taste of fame in decades sometime - Chicago, Simon & Garfunkel, Pat Benatar and Jethro Tull among them - will rule over the Jersey Shore concert background this summer, along with current heavy-hitters such as pop diva Lady Gaga and always-in-request rock icon Sting.
Lee Loughnane, an ingenious member of the horn-laden Chicago, scheduled to complete May 29 and 30 at Caesars in Atlantic Metropolis, says the band's multigenerational plea is directly linked to its unfailing musicianship.
"It's a offering to the music, really," the 63-year-old trumpeter said by phone. "We're talking decades at this stress, and there's still something in the music that resonates with people of many various ages."
Looking back to the strip's early days, Loughnane says he never could have imagined that so many years later it would still be running and very popular.
"We figured if we could get one album done, perhaps two, that would be great," Loughnane recalled. "It took until our help album, and the single 'Make Me Grin,' until things took off, but it's been a busy sit on ever since."
